The Tide is High; Let’s Go Whitewater Rafting

This weekend I was blessed to be with good friends taking a thrill ride down the Arkansas River.  The Carving Freshies crew went whitewater rafting. That’s me in the front of the Noah’s Ark raft pretty much paddling spray.

This was a great trip down the Arkansas. We went to Buena Vista, which is as close to the center of Colorado as you can get.  I cannot give a more positive recommendation for a whitewater rafting trip than Noah’s Ark.  Our trip had rapids as high as category IV. Each rapid had cool names like meat grinder, pinball, widow maker.  Best of all, the conditions are really good right now. This winter had epic snowfall in the rocky mountains and now that summer has arrived, the snow melt is filling up the rivers – and it is flowing…FAST!

Here are a few tips to ensure you have a great time and a safe trip:

  • Since the river water was snow yesterday, it is VERY cold. Please rent the wet suit and splash jacket – or bring your own.
  • Even though you’ll be wet, your skin is exposed, wear sunscreen.
  • Bring towels and dry clothes to change into after the trip.
  • Keep a keen ear for instructions from your guide, he or she will be giving commands that will be important to follow.

Best of all, here is a link to all the specials from Noah’s Ark.  Let me know about your most recent whitewater experience and if you are coming in town next spring – let’s go rafting!
